Hi All,

I have a Trident that I've had for awhile, I place it in this styro box to let it develop and heal some scars. Anyways I think it is time to start thinking about a few different options.

Whilst as is I think it could have some potential at the current height, I guess I would be trying to do something like this, hmm maybe a slightly shorter canopy...

Another option is to air layer the trunk at 2 points and try doing 2 possible shohin, maybe 1 sumo style Tridents.

Any thoughts....?

Hi Elias,

It seems you have thought about it hard already. I sort of like the shohin
idea -- because I feel that the main trunk lacks movement.

The lowest branch would be the new leader. I would layer it only once in the
first go though, then might be once the layered tree is strong enough, then
you do another one?

Please keep us posted Elias.

Best regards.

i agree. with one layer at a time.
i think your ideas are good. the trunk is rather uniform in thickness so an airlayer will help then you can develop a new leader and create taper.this is great material to work with.
there is a lot of potential there for 2 maybe even three trees. enjoy this and keep us posted

You know I think you need to layer it off! So get it done. ;) you won't regret it when you have a better tree next year!

I woudl only put 1 layer on the tree where you have the top one

I quite like the base up to the second Branch as the bottom of the tree. You have some movement and taper between the lower half and the next section to the second branch already. You would only have and you would just have to grow a new apex on it to make a nice little tree. Should only take a couple of years.

The top section would make a nice mini muchh smaller than the lower section one
