Hey all,

Yesterday I spent some money I shouldn't have, and purchased my first scots pine. I saw great potential in this tree and I was very very excited to get to work

Here it is before I started And after I thinned it out, changed the angle, did some deadwood work and selected the branches Next step was some raffia, heavy wire and some bending, then I get the primary wiring down and the main branches set, and ran out of daylight

Today I got to work wiring out the rest of the tree and placing all the branches and here it is And a shot from the right hand side for a bit of perspective I am very happy with the way it has turned out, and looking forward to seeing it progress through spring and summer

As always any thoughts are most welcome

Hi Kez,

That is an excellent first styling for this tree. The stock was good to start with.

The one qualm I have though, is that the Jinn looks a little random - have you thought about wiring that down to mimic the movement of the trunk upwards of where the Jinn starts?

The only other thing (minor) is that the cascading trunk could be brought down and forward, and the tree rotated anti clockwise (when viewed from the top) a little to get a more dynamic trunk line and give the tree a bit more power.

Did you have an idea for the pot style?

What do you think of bending the lower branch to rotate the bottom pad forwards a touch? (I think that's what MoGanic was suggesting too?)

Was actually thinking of making my next purchase a Scots too. This tree has only served to stoke the fires further!

Looked at the tree with some fresh eyes this morning and came up with a few changes, it's amazing how 4 hours of wiring will cloud your judgement haha

Here it is now and I think how it will stay As always thoughts most welcome

Fresh eyes add much to a tree - and has added much to this tree. Perfect example of minor tweaking changing the look of a tree completely.

First round of refinement on this pine. Thinned out the old needles, cut back new branchlets to 2 and wired out, and compacted the bend in the trunk and the overall design Cheers,
