Hi Folks,
Picked up this old boy from a local native nursery the other day for cheap (they dont just do natives) but it looks like some sort of pine/conifer, ID would be fantastic, the owner said a guy swapped him for some things many years ago and said its 10+ years old.

Ive been looking at it for hours, and its killing me :) I'd love to get some feedback on what the best style would be to shape the tree, obviously a format upright would probably be best best, or some sort of windswept look with possibility of exposed peeled bark on the other.. got a nice little bit of exposed root too, needs some good tlc.

I'm relatively new to bonsai, a few years, just this one ive been stuck on, got abit excited for the price / look / age and decided to buy it, any help would be appreciated !

I don't grow them, but looks like a Picea.

Looks like a Norway Spruce that has been grown under very, very heavy shade going by the sparse elongation of the growth.

edit the exif data to remove the rotation field, or just take pics on mobile device in landscape only.

looks like Picea of some sort to me
