This is very sad news indeed. Geoff and Marge were the friendly members who made me feel welcomed when I first joined the Vic club years ago. It's a great loss to the club. My condolences to the Vanner family.

I have great love and respect for Geoff and Marge Vanner. I'm so glad I recently went to see Geoff to thank him for his encouragement and kindness with both bonsai and making pots for bonsai. I showed him photos of the tree I'd bought from him at the most recent BSV Sales Day and taken to a Bjorn workshop. Geoff was pleased to see the progress of the tree.
Here are those photos:

Thankyou Geoff, never to be forgotten.

This is very sad news indeed.
Geoff was a very warm and kind individual and was always looking to provide words of encouragement to new members. He and Marge certainly made me feel welcome when I joined BSV.
My deepest sympathies go out to Marge and the family at this time, and my prayers go out for Geoff.

Sad news, the passing of Geoff Vanner on Saturday 12 Sept after a long illness. I'm sure I join the whole bonsai community, in expressing my sympathy and condolences to Marge on Geoff's passing. Geoff was a patient & thoughtful teacher of beginners, offered great advice & tips to more experienced practitioners, gave generously of his time to Bonsai Society of Victoria (Australia) over many decades and always exhibited trees of the highest standard that he had developed himself. When he was unable to obtain bonsai pots of the correct size or proportions in Australia, he taught himself ceramics, copying designs from Japanese bonsai publications.... learning glazing & finishing techniques from his ceramics tutors. Many of us have collected or been given these pots over the years; they are treasured by all who have them. Geoff & Marge facilitated & hosted regular visits to Australia by wonderful bonsai teachers, (particularly) Tom Yamamoto and Hirotoshi Saitoh. We have so much to be grateful for, in the life and achievements of Geoff Vanner. He will be sadly missed. His long life with Marge is testament to the power of love. RIP Geoff.
