It's time had come ...

Having worked on this tree here viewtopic.php?f=25&t=8771&hilit=+Juniper ever since I had diligently pinched back to style the tree as per the direction set in the original styling workshop. However pinching back has resulted in growth mainly at the ends of branches forming a broad canopy, so while healthy it was on its way to reverting to being just a shrub in a pot.

I was happy at the time of styling, but over the last year or so, every time I looked at I just knew something needed to change... So inspired by our clubs presenter last week, who showed his approach to junipers I decided to just get stuck in!

You know something's going to happen when these babies come out just for a bonsai ...

But what's going to go???
image.jpeg
The main trunk of course!!!

First restyle and it's a new tree, trimmed to open up to encourage new growth closer and wired simply to position branches. Next repot will be into a smaller pot but a slight change of angle should see it develop towards semi cascade. The jin will also be refined and maybe reduced and shari extended.

Obviously phone pics are hard to see the true perspective, but I happy to see a future I this tree now!

Thanks mate  no guts, no ... well ... self satisfaction? ;)

Alternative was trying to bend the very straight very old trunk ... I'd rather have some fun with the loppers

So I think semi cascade is the aim, but reducing the foliage to get future pads closer to the trunk is first priority

Hi Paul, now that's extreme, I've done that to a few stock buxus so I'll see how they go for now ;) thanks for the vert

Hi MN, this would have required more time and more space, neither of which I could be bothered with for a piece of juniper with very low potential. Thanks for the suggestion though. ;)
