Seems fair enough.

I'd imagine if you had a mangrove bonsai (not that they make good material from what I know of) you would also need to use similar techniques such as seawater, or at least supplement with the required salts and consistent wetness.

Years ago, my friends in Bali (Sanur Tropical Bonsai) told me they watered their pemphis with sea water for 3 or 4 month after first potting, but then they introduced more and more fresh water over the next 3 or 4 months, until eventually the pemphis was quite happy with plain tap water. I can't verify that, as the only pemphis I tried to grow died after a wrong time of year repot - long story.
