Crepe Myrtle

This is a Crepe Myrtle which was originally from nursery stock about 3 years ago. It has been destined to be a Shohin Bonsai since this time. I put it in the ground for 1 year when I got it and then it went in to a large pot for another 2 years. Early this spring it got a major root prune to fit it into this Japanese Shohin pot. I was a little worried about it, given it was such a massive root prune, but it seems to be powering along now. I am happy with how the trunk looks, so now it is time for branch development.

I plan on making the circled shoot the new leader. What do you think?

Definitely agree with the new shoot being the new leader.

PS. Beautiful pot by the way :tu:

Not if you are going to keep it in that pot.
It will take forever to develop that into a second section of trunk with believable taper from the section below.
if you wanna do that, put it back in the ground or large box and let it grow unhindered for a year, then chop again.
3- 5 years time of building trunk with taper, branches and ramification might be ready for that pot :imo:
