Simplicity at its finest Homer, looking great.
Can I ask, do you have anything fixing it at that angle or is it just the weight of the trees holding it there? I can't see anything in the photo is all.
If you don't can I suggest a simple cable tie just through the chain link and fence to be on the safe side. The last thing you want is the whole lot toppling over.
Beautiful trees by the way, I'm loving the cypress.
Cheers,
Pearcy.

Would you feel comfortable sitting on it?

No, nothing fixing it at that angle. Just the weight of the trees and the initial position of the chains on installation.
I did put some plastic tubing around the chain where it is in contact with the fence to increase the grip.
What you mentioned was a concern when constructing the shelf but when it was finished I was happy with the support.

Might be worth checking your local regulations for pool fencing. Friends of ours got a warning for having a table against there pool fence as it provided somewhere for a kid to climb over. They were told if it was seen against the fence again they'd be fined. Just a thought. Great idea though, like it.

Sure would. I think it would take a load of 150-200kg. But wouldn't want to push it that far.....
I would estimate he load at the moment is about 60-80kg.

Yep most definitely illegal to have that on a pool fence.
You cannot have anything within 300mm of the base of a fence, and nothing is to encroah within 900mm of the top of the fence in any direction. ie Draw a 900mm circle around the top of the fence at 90 deg to it and there can be nothing in that area.
That are is called the "Non climbale Zone".

note these are QLD rules, but the same applies in NSW.
ps. looking at the support chain, there is nothing stopping the chain from sliding around the bar, except a little friction. I suggest to test it in the most likely failure mode would be to give the bottom of the shelf a sharp hit or kick upward close to the fence. I doubt very much that it will not slip.
A Shakle thru 2 links of the chain will prevent that, but the table is liiegal due to the above mentioned rules re pool fencing

Its not the fine, its the neighbours' kid or visitor who can't swim and jumps the fence and drowns that this kind of apathy is a result of childhood drownings. The rules are not there to raise revenue, they are there to save lives.
Sorry, but we had a family in my primary school who lost a child for a pool not properly secure. The fine would be the least of your concern.

Hi Homer911
You will need legs at the front corner and along the edge. It will pull the fence over or at least out of shape eventually .
