Hi all,

Just got back from Japan where I visited the Ueno Green Club where a show of Shohin was on for 4 days.

I spotted this pot and bought it. A very helpful 4th year apprentice at Kobiashis identified the potter/ artists as Kimiko according to the Kanji signature on the pot. He was intrigued as to how it was made and speculated the basket weave ribbing was added as small sausage after the majority of the pot was made; all by hand.

The pot is about 160mm wide.

Just getting around to do some work after returning from Japan but first i thought I would add a few more pots to this thread.

All the above pots are made by an artist called (in romaji) Bigei.

I really like the work this guy does. The clay is very fine and it comes up in a burnished effect in some pots. They are all small pots.

What style and type of trees do you believe would compliment these pots? I imagine a juniper with lots of shari, jinn and loose bark removed would look nice.

Thats my feeling as well for the rectangular pots; plus a fine bunjin would look good in the round pots.

To me, they have a very 'industrial' feel to them. I kind of envisage them with pines in a high class corporate Japanese office.

Nice pots, Grant.
Must admit I prefer the unglazed pots, personally. The craftsmanship is very good.
