Celebrate the art of Penjing as the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, in collaboration with Bonsai Environment, host their second Penjing competition for Chinese New Year celebrations in 2016.

Entries are open now and close at 5pm (AEST) on Friday 11 December 2015.

New for next year is that in addition to the competition for displayed Penjing, there is also a Photo Competition for those people who are unable to deliver their entry for display. Now there is no excuse not to enter your tree or landscape and try for the great prizes.

GREAT NEWS!

The Chinese Penjing Artists Association have agreed to provide a panel of expert Penjing judges to make the awards!

Judging will include reasons in the form of a critique.

We are extremely fortunate that this event now has the benefit of expert judging and support from China.

Remember, you still have 'til 5pm on Friday, 11th December 2015 to get your entries in!

Will Penjing under training (with wire) be accepted in the photos comp?

yes, trees can be submitted with wire or other training materials such as threads and thin bamboo stakes

same as in bonsai, it should be neatly applied, as little as possible but as much as necessary, and not so as to detract from the overall presentation

what I like about the Photo Competition is that we can photograph our trees and landscapes when they are looking their best and submit that photo

very few of us are able to maintain our trees and landscapes in 'show condition' at all times and there is some argument that we shouldn't be trying to?

it also evens things up between evergreen, deciduous, flowering, etc

The Penjing entries selected for display are now being exhibited within Darling Harbour's Chinese Garden of Friendship.
They will remain on display until the announcement of the winners on Sunday, 21 February 2016.

This year, for the first time, photos of all entries are also on display to allow public voting for the People's Choice Award.

yes it is!

the dates around Chinese New Year vary from year to year and we are just waiting to confirm the start and end date

the big news for next year will be an expanded competition for photo entries

there will still be penjing on display and winners chosen from those, but organisers are keen to see even more photo entries

the advantage of a photo entry is that you can photograph your tree or landscape when it is looking it's best (eg. in flower) and you don't have to deliver it to the Chinese Gardens in Sydney to enter

and, the same prizes are on offer for the winner of the photo entries

so, get your lens clean, trees and landscapes looking their best, and get those photos ready
