Hi Guys made a decision and sharpened the saw , Cut loose on the stump looking for the hidden treasure .Like me its not perfect yet but i ran out of puff , 2 tanks of fuel 2 hours on the saw and 1 hour on the dremel its taking shape .I can say its an improvement front and back but the sides leave a bit to be removed . Firstly i designed the tree in the thinking arena cos i don't have a computer program ,then i outlined the trunk with water base paint for cutting and another outline for carving .This was Not a Hack and Chop and hope for the best method .Then i set about removing the stubs from both sides using the very tip of the saw , so i could actually curve the cuts ."We all know a chain doesn't cut in circles but you can cut a curve using the tip"

With the stubs removed i used the tip again to carve and scallop the heartwood out keeping the saw low at the back so it didn't kick back and give me a "Mohawk on the thinking cap" . An hour on the Dremel to smooth things out a bit and in all its glory its a very good looking trainer . If anybody would like to guess the age give it a stab. Cheers

Going on the orchards in the area I would hazard at 98

Gosh, poor tree.Thats what i call going to the extrems,did you get any fruit from it. Also my guess the tree is 70 years or so.looking forward to seeing its progress.

Alright gotta love a challenge. Good job i know about the kickback. My wife is a nurse and the chainsaw is the favoured reason for visiting her at hospital. i have two hawthorns that size that i have to take the chainsaw to. Might take photos first for the hawthoff

Hi Petra , poor tree be buggered i liberated it . It has 2 buds about to burst so it may fruit , 2 new shoots as well .My guess was 60-70 and i was way off the mark. Cheers

Hi Bod , been handling chainsaws for most of my life as the old fella was a bushy ,seen blokes loose legs , arms and all sorts .Safety is paramount even an electric chainsaw can carve you in half .Look forward to the pics .Cheers

Hi kc , just limited it to where i don't need them .Lost 25 kg today and with a fine tune another 25 kg and she will be trim , taught and terrific . With all that root ball pumping goodness its got to go somewhere so i hope to get a good choice of shoots to pick from .Its only a progression not a completion .Cheers

I reckon you will have plenty to p[ick from and you will have a few years yet till the get the right size anyway .

Let the fun begin i will have to lay back and let them run riot .Certainly wont be up to trimming and wiring .Watering is all that will take place .Cheers
