Hello everyone!
I'm very new to bonsai. I've recently inherited three bonsai trees and, while I'm managing with the Melaleuca and Chinese Elm, I'm floundering a bit with the flowering plum.

It has very quickly gone from this: to this: I'll absolutely be looking into joining a local club to learn to basics, but in the meantime I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to when to start pruning back all this new growth?
I would really appreciate any tips or help you could offer me, thanks guys!

Prune now. I find plums respond to regular pruning rather than a "big" prune.

Hi Spacecat , mate as Watto has said is true . I pinch and grow all deciduous material regularly through the season or hack and chop in my case. Cherries , plums , elms , crab apples , maples etc all treated the same and all respond very well be it pot of ground growing material .

Maybe cut each branch back to two leaves twice or three times in a season, but let them get a little length from autumn onwards, to carry the flowers. Flowering fertiliser from ?Feb onwards. Each time you cut back you should (hopefully!) get more branches, and therefore more flowers. Clubs are useful, and Perth has some good ones.
