Prioritizing out bonsai work

Hypothetical:

You have 40 trees at varying levels of development and 3 fully developed show level trees. It's growing season, work and family keep you very busy and you have very little time left to commit to your bonsai collection.

Do you:

a) work on your best trees first ensuring that you continue to have a few higher level trees.
b) work on your lesser developed specimens bringing your collection further towards that higher level.
c)have a beer and sit in front of the telly

Probably c lol. I'm personally closer to b as I only have 1 in a pot for refinement and about 30 in plastic nursery pots that are growing on

If you let your best get out of control, then you end up with 43 trees at varying levels of development.

b) to bring them to a level that you can then sell a number of them so your collection matches the time you available.

...and pay someone to keep your good trees up to a high standard.

I think it depends on what your goals are. If you are growing bonsai for enjoyment and relaxation ( as I am) then having a couple of good trees that are maintained and the rest being put on hold would be my approach. By put on hold I still mean regular fertilising etc, just no new trees developed.

But you can always make time if something is important to you, it just may not be in the shames sized blocks as normal.

If you have time for a beer in front of the tv, move to b.

A combination of A and C. Work on your exhibition quality trees while having a refreshing ale.
