Never enough benches.

Had to throw together a quick new bench after I received a couple of new trees as Birthday presents.

Easiest I could think of was the Besser Block approach. I'd never tried it but though it would be the strongest for a somewhat narrow bench.

Went down the local paver store today and grabbed a few blocks. My god were they heavier than I expected. I drove home with my car's exhaust nearly scraping along the road.

Grabbed a old plank of wood I had at home that was around 250-300mm wide. 15 minutes later and presto! Simplest bench you'll ever make and very sturdy too.

PS. The new trees are the ROR trident and the callistemon subulatus (the possums love me for bringing this home, will hopefully be less appetizing on the new bench  ). Not sure if you can see them properly against the background, both were obtained from Shibui's very impressive nursery - thanks again for the tour Neil!

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Milk crates are much lighter. Most servos are happy to give them away for free.

I spent for ever trying to figure out where to get some the other day hahaha. Oh well, next time. Cheers anyway mate.

The other problem I have is an inquisitive dog who may jump and push it over if it were the milk crates. Where I've placed the blocks is half paver half pebbles so I didn't want it to tilt with the dogs weight. He's only around 15kg but he can be a handful at times haha.

I like the Trident ROR nice score.
Also if you hammer a stake into the holes of the besser blocks, it will give them more stability and they wont tumble on the dog.
Cheers

It was a really slow 30km drive, I couldn't even reverse up my driveway as the towbar dragged!!!!

Nice bench :-)
When I use Besser Blocks on soil instead of hard surface, I always lay the first one one the side so that it does not sink in.

Great tip! Thanks Ken. It is fine this time around but I'll definitely remember it for next time.

Made a further extension to this bench giving it a third level, while minimising space.

I liquid nailed both a full and half size besser block together on their flat ends, in order to extend out for the bottom tier.

I have two dogs and a small courtyard to try fit both my trees and the pets in, so the less space utilised the better.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Yeah that's funny - he has photo bombed your shot Pearcy. I feel some leg cocking may soon be on the agenda?

Haha I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice him. Luckily for me he's not an issue in the garden, but my other one... 15week old puppy has already destroyed half a dozen trees and pruned a few more branches. She may look cute and innocent but I can assure you she's not.

Cheers,
Pearcy.
