I collected this stump 3 years ago. Root spreading is good. The chop points scared up quite well. Will focus on branch selection after this. The problem I am having now is not being able to ID it properly. The leaves resemble Port Jackson but not quite. It would be good if you could help ID it.

Hi DK, I think it might be Curtain Fig Ficus virens var. sublanceolata Other names: White Fig, Banyan Tree.
Cheers

Just remember that F. rubiginosa has a very large range and has developed a lot of variation. Trees from one area often look very different from those in another part of its range. I believe that it is almost impossible to truly tell the difference between some species unless you have fruit.
In any case, most figs have pretty similar requirements so it is not really important to know the species.

Thanks Kirky but I am sure it's not ficus Virens which I have a lot here in QLD. This species does not have the interesting flushing red colour for the young leaves like ficus Virens would have.
ShiBui, you are right that it is not easy to identify by just looking at the leaves.
Thank you for all the inputs. I just hope that someone may have come across this species and knows what it is...because there are quite a few of them around Brisbane. It would be nice to know specifically what it is.

I picked up seeds from the JC Slaughter Falls picnic shed area, from under some massive figs, about 10 years ago. The plants I have from there are very similar to yours, leaf and bark... (not that that helps identify them...but if you know the area you can see some mature specimens.)

Hmm looks a little like ficus elastica. But hey, i guess they all look pretty damn similar.

Or maybe lipstick ficus.
