This is the Maple that I mentioned in the First time Juniper cascade discussion.
It looks OK here but when it starts to grow in Spring the tail will turn upwards
Wiring is only tempory, I usually tie a weight to the tail to keep it down.
Any suggestions?

I think this is a very nice tree, id like to see side on pictures please and some dimensions. Dont see to many maples in semi or cascade style. I miss the colour you sotherners get. All i get is growth. Have you got any outa leaf so we can see the branch structure

That's a great looking base and tail, if the branch structure is as good it is sure to be very impressive.
As they say bonsai will have periods that they are in training and won't look the best] so I figure the upward growing tail is just a necessity of the design in stages of growth.
You could always stand the tail up for a period of the fastest growth.

Makes it hard to water tho

great tree jon, as for the problem is it the case that there natural habit is upright and spreading??? it seems like your trying to go against the force of nature to me, but bonsai does that aswell maybe you could cut wedges out from the fork of the branch to help change the angle on it to get it to grow down????
the branch looks pretty sturdy tho so i dont know how well this will work!!
