Having fun decorating my bench with all sorts of things

Slowly getting everything together with the bench...
Irrigation poles have air plants growing on them(the back 4 do at the moment), the 3 spaces below bench have baby tears growing on the base and a water feature added in the corner.
Growing heaps of moss in pots to use on bonsai's and around the water feature.
Even making/creating vertical growing baby tears for the besser blocks(once baby tears takes off).
Even have mini rabbits every where.....
All good fun tho......

Still lots more to go and once the baby tear establishes on the base and the vertical baby tears walls are up, it should look alright...

Hello Chris,

Well done.

Looks good, although too tidy - you need a bit of mess too.

Hello Chris,

These are good pictures, i can see more of your plants now - i can now see some old ones at the back, and a forest planting.

You have a good collection.

I would like to do a forest planting. I have ever done one before. I recently took english elm cuttings - if they take, i hope to make a forest too.

Kevin

You've got 2 ferals there Ace - the rabbits and the starweed. Seriously that weed is a real menace. Seeds spread several metres when the pods explode and it also self layers and will be in all your pots in no time. Do yourself a favour and get rid of it before it gets out of hand mate.

I was just reading another post about it, I didn't know it was a weed as I got it from another bonsai grower.. ..
Its a shame, I liked the look of it.......

Agreed it kinda looks nice but shibui is right, more trouble than it's worth ... It'll add to your weeding time, when really you wanna be pruning/chopping/wiring etc. time to eradicate!

Its on my to do list now...
I was considered how fast it spread and how it started appearing in other pots.....
Thankfully I've been collecting moss as well, so I have something to replace it with....

Has anyone ever tried baby tears??
Or what else can one use?

G'day Ace, nice setup ... feels great when you get the space to get organised :tu:

A lot of gardeners use baby's tears as a ground cover because it spreads easily, but lots of bonsaists classify if as a weed for the same reason ...

Very general rule with co-planting is avoid anything that: has roots that compete (for water/nutrients) or entangle with the tree's roots; covers the soil surface and prevents water absorption. Therefore most people leave the soil surface free, then decorate it with moss for exhibiting ;) Exceptions being if you are making a Saikei or Penjing landscaped scene, then small plants like mondo grass etc, usually used as accent plants could be used :D

Try investigating 'bonsai accent plantings' (they get displayed along side your bonsai in their own smaller pots) and you may get inspired to create some yourself, instead of trying to incorporate additional plants in with your bonsai :tu:

But, all in all, (like you title says) have fun with it! :tu:

I have removed the weed, can't believe how deep the roots go...
I suspect I'll be pulling more out as it pops up......
I thoughts baby tears would be a problem with roots as well....
I still like the look of moss green especially around rocks, so I might try have some fun with it....

It'll pop back a little but if you keep on top of it not for too long with any luck!
