Hi Guys,
Another one up for grabs.
Tree stands at 45cm tall and started out as a bonsai in 1990. I'm really unsure what a fair price is for this tree, so I'm hoping some may be able to give direction if that's allowed?
feedback welcome.

It is a lovely tree and very well shaped but for $1000 I'd be wanting a thicker trunk than that. No size of the trunk is given but I'd be wanting more for that sort of money. Mind you, it is hard asking someone who does bonsai what a tree is worth because we can make 'em where someone who can't could be willing to pay that figure.

I agree with Mel that while this tree has a lovely canopy , looks very healthy and is showing very nice flowers it is lacking trunk thickness to make it more appealing and hense demanding a higher price. I cant see the branch structure so there could be some straight sections in there which is less appealing. Im not putting the tree or the owners abilitys down as i think keeping it alive to this standard over that period of time takes some skill. I just think with a single front photo its hard to judge price.

i think what mason is going on is nursery prices.. this would probly go for a $1000 in a nursery being potted up and cared for like that. if you go to some of the nurseries and look at the stock plants or the pre trained plants still in plastic containers, if they have been grown like that for up to 20 odd years you would be look at a price like that, just for raw stock. but thats just my opinion.
i think ken needs to decide on some sort of price or go to auction for this tree

years in training is somewhat ilrelevant i think as to the actual physical charateristics of the bonsai (ie how the tree actually looks) a professional could work with a piece of material and turn it into something a novice may spend ten seasons achieving. The final outcome (how the tree looks) should be the price setter, not how long it took to get there. When i purchase a tree i usually look at shape, size dimensions, health etc. How many years in training is way down on my list.

hey mate. i agree with that too. but what you gotta look at there isnt some much the training of the tree its the time and labour spent on it too. if a professional takes a piece of material and turns it into a piece that a novice spend ten years training to acheive, is it still going to be valued at the same price?
can ya see what i am saying here?
just food for thought anyway

since i kinda wondered off track a little i should put a price on it and my reasons why.
$150 at the bottom end $350 tops why........
trunk thickness or lack of dosent really display a sence of age to me.
no real structured form which i look for ( i might be influenced by japanese trees but that is me, exceptions might be baynan stlye on figs)
the pot is nothing special, a run of the mill chinese one i think
its in great health and displaying an even display of flowers, strength looks balanced throughout tree.
Now if ken loves the tree and wants to pay $1000 for it than go for it mate. Its up to you as your the perspective buyer im just giving you some insight for what i look for in trees which may or may not be to everyones taste. Good luck with it mate

opps , well ken if your buying ask for what i said ,if your selling than a grand for sure.....
in all honestly mate you will proberly only get what some one is willing to pay for it and if that was me id stick by my estimate but someone may love the tree and offer alot more.
