hi guys

the other day i finished part of my uni course, im learning all the preferred programs for architecture.

this time i learned a program called vectorworks, if you've used cad before its just another interface like the rest of the drawing packages, but more advanced than sketch up(although that is a great fast little sketching program)

so the way it goes is... you draw everything like a polyline or shapes cut out of surfaces, and when you're happy with your design and you have all of your joints figured out, you take your work to the cnc router and enter your DXF file into the program that tells the router where and how to move. after that it's sit back and watch your sheet dance

here is my best result so far...
oh, and she sits about 350mm tall.

i will certainly play with this some more, and with some nicer timber too...

Great design Aaron, my son works one of these machines for making signs, guess what i'll be asking him to make for me.
You've inspired me to try and design a few more stands that he can cut out.

Great stand
Give it a bit of charcoal stain or red paint and you wont have to worry about the type of timber.

Looks really good Aaron. When you get tired of architecture you can make stands as a sideline. Talented, Man. You are so talented.

and i think i'll paint this one, it's only really a test piece of mdf and i'm not sure if it won't swell with stain, it is only 4mm thick.

ill experiment more with stains when some decent material is used.

um as for pictures of the router, i don't have any at the minute, but it's just like this...
the one at uni has a sweet computer attached, but you get the picture

and ill keep ya's updated if this thing progresses...

I have access to a laser cutter (landscape architecture student here!) which will probably do just as well

straight out there. flat pack design, works well...
you could make a nice little profit with these mate!!!

Nice work Aaron i would be interested if it is going to become a sideline hobby for you. Could maybe move 1 or 2 for you to.

The lasers are awesome, precision cutting power at your fingers *drool*
I might get stand making too, looks a blast! The lasers can cut 9mm timber... how exciting!
