thanks snow but I don't think that is it, the flowers and those pod things are similar. I could be wrong?

I'm leaning towards dogwood but the leaves are soft and fluffy .

Hello Paulneill,

To me - it looks Solanaceae.

I was looking at the trunk, it reminded me of the noxious weed i've seen around suburban Sydney - tobacco bush. I can also see you've already started the layer.

Same for the fruits - identical to another Sydney suburban noxious - Ink Weed (that's what i have called it, due to what you look like after the whipper snippers hit it). (EDIT) That would be S. americanum or Nightshade. Although i have never seen this one tree like, just very similar fruits.

This is the fruits of Solanum erianthum:

Thanks kevin I did a bit of reading on the species solanaceae, they have an alternate leaf so I think I can rule it out, it is very similar.

My tree has opposite leaves: :lost:

I'd also rule out Solanacea. Even though the photos of flowers are blurry the flowers don't appear to be regular 5 or 6 sided symmetrical. Appears to have one petal longer like a tongue. I was going to suggest Eremophila but I'm not aware of any with large, soft looking leaves like that.
Some decent clear pictures would be a great help when people post for ID. Close up of flower, leaf, leaves on a branch, bark and overall shape (habit) of the plant all give vital clues to ID.

I've been searching the Internet for an answer to this. I have no idea but I'm starting to think it's no much use as a bonsai tree.
