I stumbled upon some every day farm Cyprus seed grown trees along the rail line which I drive trains regularly and dug them out about 6 months ago.
Grew them on all together (5) in a colander and they were doing fine with the intention of shortening the height and using them for just practice pruning and wiring.
The last week along that same rail line up against the fence and under the giant parent Cyprus I found a dried out tree that was just sitting on top of the ground.
Stopped and retrieved it..Took it home and gave it a scrub and a bit of a trim and thought I'd have a go at a Phoenix with the trees in the colander...being from the exact same Cyprus I'm using the same gene pool in both the stump and it's grafted stock..
Here we go and the wait begins.

Unfortunately death was swift for my Mk1 Phoenix.
I've never watched a cypress cecum to so swift a a death in that it feathered and flaked in days.
Anyway such is what we attempt and if all we attempted was perfect then everything would soon be boring.

I liked the old stump so off to a little nursery in Ferntree Gully and back I came and did a little preliminary work to start afresh.
Different variety this time. (Nursery Stock)

A Rocket profiled Conifer, as I like to change the grow characteristics.

Well a couple of days after posting I got the #$%@! with this here swannes Golden and popped it over to a pot on it,s own..Not worth a shot yet but if it goes it goes.
A couple of days after deciding 'nuh' that's not what I''m after a sqat was found.
This I'm pleased with and have placed in the 'persist for a year and see basket'.

I trimmed it way back and wired for a bit of style and this is were it is now after 62 days.
Still the same old Chinese pot with just a bit of carving on the 'recycled stump'.
If I had found..no picked what I really wanted from the start even more growth would be up. April 16th really wasn't that long ago when I started and I'm allowed to change my mind .

Thanks..a lot seems to be going right with this one..soil was changed a bit and I decided to fertilize with a common native tree pellet.. Crushed up in soil mix and added to a fertilizer basket on top.
This I'm happy with and have used it across all my trees for a year or so including a couple of mugo's that seem to like it as well.
The original cyprus was torn from it's lair and was my stupidity that did it in.
The Swannes 'dry tipped' within days but has slowly recovered and with get a new lease next year.

Back with the old cyprus I have had a dig again along my railway line and have a few future victims to torture..'NO' only joking.... they are flushing up very well after removal of 'locomotive oil'.

Never happy and wanted to down size.
The Squatty established well in the big oval pot 'but'.
I gave the lot a face lift..Pot, tree and old stump.

Reworked another pot with the trusty 'diamond saw' kit to suit.
Wire and new up size drainage holes.

The pot. The tree. Re pot and position. (much different from original)
