Unusual Leaves on a Chinese Elm

Today was the Goulburn Bonsai Society meeting and there was an unusual Chinese elm there that had two distinctly different leaves on the same tree, actually on the a branch they were different in size. I am not sure if this is a common occurrence but I had never seen this before.

Yep common occurrence. Just cut it of and next lot of shoots will be smaller

Just the shoot reverting to the original leaf form.
very common on any small leaf tree variety that we select for bonsai, They revert occasionally to the native form.
Also happens to variegated trees too when they sprout non variegated branches

Thank you for the info. I mustn't get out much as I have never seen this on an elm before.
