Ok, so I was around at my father-in-law's place the other day, and his wisteria was popping seeds. I decided it would be fun to collect some, and see if I could get them to germinate.

I had about 30 in total, most of which I put into zip-lock bags in the fridge for another time, I had some from a purple wisteria and some from a white one.

I then took 5 of each colour, and put them into zip-lock bags with damp paper towl, and put them on a shelf in a living room. I didn't really expect anything to happen.

Anyway... they've started to shoot! Problem now is... what do I do with them next?!

I guess find some small pots, get some propagation mix (or would sphagnum moss do?) and plant them, then once they've grow their second set of true leaves... move them into a grow box?

Did I miss anything? What would you guys do?

only one thing to remember.
it wil take between ten and fifteen years to flower, but you will have control over its growth. Remember to style for the best show of its hanging flowers, and go take some cuttings after its finished flowering (the one at your dads).

Yes, I know it'll take a VERY long time to flower, but that's ok. These will be my experimental trees! (insert evil laugh here)

I did take some cuttings at the time too... but... well, let's just say I completely botched that, and need to go back for some more

keep trying. They airlayer very well.

wisteria seed grow very easily, there is a reason it is listed as a noxious weed. I've taken wisteria seed, turned it into a wine barrel full of garden dirt, and had the seedlings come up by the dozen. I let them grow rampant for a few years, then selected 8 of the best to turn into bonsai, put 4 into each wine barrel etc.

none of them ever flowered. mind you, my bought cutting grown wisteria has nevver flowered either...

Sounds like just the plant for me then! Something that can survive the punishment of being worked on by a novice

I might put them into some small pots with 50% sphagnum / 50% bonsai potting mix and see how they go...
