Hi all,

I am trying my best to restyle this trident i acquired last year from nsw. It was too thick gfor my liking and the pot was really heavy and bulky for this tree.

Ramification takes years but it is slowly getting there.


I still havent selected my finally front yet but another year or two, i will finalise my front.


Thoughts please.

Will do. First picture with hollow near the trunk/root looks ok (being my front since day one) but the second picture pointing north looks slowly more refine. I have structurely altered the appearance of the tree because it was really dense and too broom me

Branches are straight and lack taper, I imagine the experts will advise on a severe pruning this winter.

I think the experts would advise a repot before anything else...

I am no expert, but if this tree was mine, I would repot into a larger pot or into the ground, build some strength and layer from the widest part above the first root.
Once the layer has taken, I would shorten some of the straight branches to build a more compact tree. This would take you back a few years but would result in a better tree.

the problem is the trunk and root. the two options are air layering to a shorter tree or let the branches cover the too straight trunk. also need to fix the root. btw the tree was in a huge bulky pot and repotted into this pot in the last growing season.

If it were my tree I would experiment with the toothpick method to get the nebari where the roots are going into the ground and develop the tree into a broom style. It's got a nice curve to the trunk
