When re potting is discussed. Questions that always pop up are what is the best time?.
The inevitable answer is at bud burst. The next question is what is Bud Burst?
Well here is a little pictorial on a bottlebrush. The same applies to just about all plants!!.

I think I did mine a bit late this year?

Thanks for the infomation, does this mean that if i trimmed back a callistemon and its throwing out buds low i can repot now even though its quite "late" with the hot weather on our door step?

Yes you can but be aware that at any time you re pot!! the after care is important.
Not too much Sun not too much wind! and not too much water in the soil but plenty on the foliage as in misting. This may not be practical when you are working or studying! so some shade till it shows signs all is well. I also use Seasol or one of the other Auxin providers! ( Superthrive tm ) available at Bonsai South in Carringbah . Pup

G,day to all members that are thinking about re potting. The reason I have put this back up, is there are pictures of BUD BURST. Which is the most preferred answer to the question when is the best time to re pot?.

Then we get the question what is Bud BURST? here is a progression of buds so you can see them. The fact that it is a Callistemon should not make any difference, as bud shape look different but the burst is the same.

So I hope this is of some help.

I have a few trees here in Southern Victoria starting to swell and burst. Namely Chinese Elm, Prunus, Callistemon and Larch.

... might just do that! Right now my computer time has come to and for the day... My wife has other plans for me, like taking cyclone damage to the tip and ... urgh, weeding![PERSEVERING FACE]
Cyclone brings lots of rain which is awesome for our garden and my trees, but it seems that weeds love it too.
