Bonsai World Jilliby

Have been wanting to head up to Bonsai World for some time now, well today was the day. Nice drive from Sydney & from the start of the FWY it only took 45min to the nursery. Drove into the car park & was really surprised. Elated to see benches & benches of great stock. Was happily welcomed by nurserymen offering assistance, pointing me to the trees that I was interested in. Was pleasantly surprised to see that all stock is extremely reasonably priced.
Introduced myself to Ashley, I really enjoyed the chat... He's a wealth of knowledge & very passionate about his craft. And as a bonus he spent a considerable amount of time helping me pick out a couple of JBP's(all grown from seed). As my knowledge is fair, Ashley guided me through initial styling/training providing me with different options of potential leaders and future branching as well as general care of JBP's, which is very helpful for the novice. Chose a couple of nice Japanese Maple's with lot's of potential & also came home with a couple of bags of soil & a bag of diatomite.
All in all a great day out, highly recommended, great customer service & stock that is very reasonably priced. Hopefully you all can enjoy the same experience as mine when you get the chance.
Nearly forgot... Ashely also told me that he's running out of room... & has had the excavator out clearing more land, for more benches which I assume will be full of stock in the future. Hopefully when I'm up there next there will be more to see.

Hey Reece... I was only really focussed on the JBP's & didn't have a look at the other benches of pines...Might be best to give Ashley or Dave a call to see if they have them in stock.

No white pines.

I wanna also add that Ash, Dave and Hugh are the some of the best and most honest nurseryman to deal with. I always intend on calling in for a quick chat and end up staying for at least 40 mins chewing the fat.

10/10.

Righto, righto, stop building the place up. The Goulburn Bonsai Society has a bus trip there on 19 June and I don't want anyone else to purchase the stock before we get there. After will be all right, but not before we get the chance to pick over the best bits ha ha ha ha ha

Well with Watto and 8 other tragics from Goulburn I "swam" to this great nursery yesterday.
It absolutely bucketed down our entire visit and most of the trip up and also all the trip home.
Did it deter us NO!!! we were like ten little kids at a combined Christmas and Easter party.
We received a great welcome and the kettle was boiling for morning tea.
Spent ages wandering around under umbrellas and making our selections.
The prices are very realistic and everyone came away with some great bargains.
So many goodies that several members had to nurse their treasures all the way home. :o
All in all a great day and well worth the trip no matter the weather. :hooray:

Definitely braved the weather there... But I'm sure that you weren't deterred, Wonderful & very helpful staff up at Bonsai World. Willing to answer any questions and pass on knowledge freely, makes it all the more worthwhile. I've only been up once, but with the excellent stock that they have grown at BW, I'll definitely be back...

Hi Jarad,

Just wondering where I can find out more info on the workshop?

I'm new to bonsai and apart from the day and time it's on was wondering if it's for beginners too or if I can just be a spectator even?

Thanks,
Chris
