Hi everyone
This a small JM that I wrapped around a rock using shibui's foil wrap technique , the foil really gets the roots close without any wire or string marks and it keeps all the roots contained. This is after 1 year in the ground, I rewrapped with new foil and planted

Great work Peter! You must be happy with the result. The roots look like they have a nice hold on the rock. I also saw a technique recently where you can use the blue chux (for wiping down benches) cut into strips and tied together. When wrapped around they can pull tight. After a couple of years they just rot away.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

They fit like a glove. Nicely done and nicely arranged.

Hi pearcy and nate
Yes i am very happy with the results :D . The advantage of foil is that it presses into any crevices instead of stretching over them. I found with other stuff I've used unless the rock is convex the roots stay loose if there is a hollow in the rock unless you use bit of Styrofoam under the wrap pressing on the roots
Cheers Peterb

Hello Peter,

Well done, the roots have moulded well around the rock, i would be extremely happy with your results.

Curiosity questions:

1. Why rewrap in foil now, wouldn't you want the roots to now lignify?
2. Your new planting angle has me intrigued, considering rock shape, tree angle and root directions
3. Replanting into what?
4. Are you planning on root pruning prior to repot?
5. Are you planning to repot into a Bonsai pot?
6. When are you going to start on the trees branch developments?

Maybe a picture of the tree repotted will answer many of my questions.

Thanks for sharing,

Kevin

Hi Kevin
I rewrapped it in foil because the finer roots around the back of the rock hadn't quite hardened off yet , and so they could easily be dislodged . I did quite a heavy rootprune before I replanted it ( back into a nursery pot ) and I did start on branch and trunk developement by shortening the trunk at the top to reduce the straight bit at the top and I did a preliminary choosing of branches . I'm back on shift tomorrow so it will be a few days before I can take any photos
cheers peterb
