Ok, so i brought this black pine yesterday, looked very healthy and has a lot off potential. it had been in the same plastic pot for 3-5 years!! so i went ahead and repotted it, now i have no idea where to start as to make it a bonsai?? its a little large and needs some serious styling.
Is it ok to prune branches on a pine after repotting? i don't want to stress and kill it thats all.
open to suggestions on what to do?? :tu:

If you repot you cannot touch it now. Maybe a very light prune.
Shape it in 2 years.

Can you tell it's a slow day?

This kind of material is very difficult to style. I only Came up with these ideas:
1 layer it off to get a multi trunk thing:

Or a tall slender tree:

The trunk is fairly thin without a lot of taper so a literati is always an option.

You could chop the branches here:

Wire in the new apex, tilt the whole thing slightly backwards and go with something like this:

Plenty of room for styling but you get the idea.

Folks,

My feeling is that there is a knob at the second branch set as a result of multiple branches from the same location, this is always going to be a flaw. I'd be tempted to take it off at the first set and grow the current bottom right branch out as a new leader. Work from there. Just a thought.
