Adam
I have a old one been with me for about 8 years . It has slowly rotted away buy have been treating the dead wood to preserve it . It totally loses all its leaves here in NE vic in the hills but just rebudding now . Ill get some pics up tomorrow if I remind myself to get a recent photo. They really do have a dense root mass and fill pots quick. I repotted mine 2 weeks ago .

It looks great Adam.
I have a few privet going I will post them as they become presentable. See the thread below for one of them.

They don't drop leaves where I am so I defoliate to develop the structure. I also prune constantly to get ramification otherwise the growth becomes to long and leggy.
Cheers,
Symon

I also have a very big, 80-90 year old privet. Massively rotten down the guts. What are you using to treat the rot?

I have a couple on the go Adam, one really big (4 person lift) and a couple of others. At the moment mine has almost lost all its leaves this year but is budding well now and is in need of a re-pot, but that re-pot is a big job and takes nearly a full barrow of potting mix. Here is a photo form last year when it was in flower.
