Hey everyone, you have probably all heard this before but here it goes.
I am very new to bonsai and I recently purchased a serissa foetida and a juniperus Squamata prostrata (2 months ago).
Everything has been going great I gave them both a trim and have been watching them grow, most recently I purchased some fertiliser online for bonsai as I have read it is the right time to do so. After breaking up some small pellets and placing them around in the soil 2 days later the serissa has been dying/leaves wilting and now have turned brown and the juniper's leaves have since started turning yellow. Today I removed the pellets and gave them some water. Any advice would be appreciated as they are looking very sad. I wouldn't have thought fertiliser specifically for bonsai would do this and I haven't been overwatering as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance!

Hey mate . Im not a pro but im sure some of the people that are on here will ask for more information. Please share the type of fert you used brand and whats its composed of .
Also some photos of the juniper that will help the guys out .
If the foliage is turning yellow from the tips it will most likely be over watering . Thats about all I can help with .
Its probably a good thing you removed the fert also .
Scratch the bark off a bit at the end of the sarissa and see if its green underneath you may be able to save it if so .

Here is a photo of the juniper The fertiliser was from Aus bonsai online and is 4-0.5-3
I might let the soil dry out a little then give them a good rinse.

Thats not a juniper mate .
Its a buxus of some description. I may be wrong but def not a juniper

Oh really, I did purchase them from Bunnings so who knows the tag said juniperus Squamata prostrata.
It doesn't look like any of the junipers I've seen online though so that would make sense.

Mate if you are interested in getting into bonsai . Find a local perhaps someone on here can help you get some good starting stock . Tbh and its my opinion but places like bunnings are no good for bonsai you would be better buying one from a bonsai place . You will get better advice and much better and well cared for stock .
Not to mention a better tree for ypur $$ .
What ever happens with these guys dont let it put you off Bonsai .
They are great and when you get a tree from a good supplier you will understand .

Where are the trees located?
Indoor outdoor both?
What is your watering regime?

Both trees look potentially dead to me.
2nd agreed is some sort of buxus.

Tell us more and we can help.
Bonsai nursery is definitely a better place to start.
Keeping trees alive is the most important part of bonsai.

Only chance i can see is soaking them in water for 24hrs then water every day for a couple of week and cross your fingers and toes. I would say underwatered since they died so quick. Maybe too much fert. Either way lots of plain water and hope for the best .

They are both outside and recieve morning and mid day sun. I give them a light mist every 2nd day and a soak once a week if the soil seems dry. They may have been over watered three days ago as it rained overnight and although they are undercover it may have blown in.

Jfish 1 thing when we talk about over watering it cant be done in a short time mate so dont worry about rain ... overwatering is a prolonged period of soil that is drenched ... a few days of rain wont kill your tree .

Its important to have a well drained soil . Never get into a routine with watering . The trick is to keep the soil damp not wet . Sometimes my trees will need water 3 xs a day in summer and may not need a drink in a week over winter.

There is a wealth of info on this site and people willing to help . Take sammyds advice to try and recover the trees .

Your on the Sunshine Coast. Misting and watering once a week is nowhere near enough. I'm in Melbourne and I have started watering every second if very windy to third day. At this time of year pots start to dry out quickly.
Scratch the trunks near the base if they are still green you may have a chance to nurse them back to health. If they are not green then they are gone. If still green a good soak in the sink with seasol you can submerge the pots for a few hours to re hydrate the soil. Then water in the morning if possible, soaking every second/third day.
