Hey guys, Just wondering if i've got the identification right on this tree (Caucasian Oak (quercus macranthera)).
Also, any style tips would be great!
There is a large leader jutting up from the centre of the tree, but i'm pretty sure that's going winter next year.

I've got no idea what it is, but thanks for posting. It is great looking stock and I would appreciate it if you could give us all the occasional up-date as it progresses. Also note some large stock in the background!!

I got bored today, so I ended up giving it a trim and air layered the leader shoot.

Nice tree there. The branches look long and spindly would cut that to bring the canopy closer to the trunk while also developing ramification over some time. One question though. Do you keep your bonsai's on the ground like in the picture? I had done that with mine and the shot roots through the drainage holes.

I let the branches grow some years to fatten up the feeder branches.
Just cut a bulk of them back, but there's still more to go once it flushes out some new season growth.
While my plants are bulking and training, i don't mind if some roots grow into the ground.
It helps with the trees growth, and they are easy to cut off when moving the pot.

Bending the heavy branches is a little bit of fun for me. I use turnbuckles and leverage to achieve bends.
