I picked up this wonderful Juniper from Bonsai South a few years ago. I initially kept this tree as it was but as my aesthetic changed and my abilities improved, I began to see different possibilities.

The main feature on this tree is it's powerful and trunk with great natural deadwood and dramatic movement. By removing the major right hand branch it changed the movement of the tree back to the left, against the initial direction of the trunk line. I also dramatically shortened the apex to compact the design and increase it's impact.

Finally I increased the angle when re-potting to further add to the drama and interest. I had a pot made for this tree by Ron Lang (USA)..some people may not like it but it guess pot selection is quite a personal thing.

One of the major challenges with his tree is it's foliage, that reverts back to juvenile status when it's pruned although I'm getting it more under control with different and more deliberate techniques, it's always going to be a little leggy but I guess that's part of the charm

Really nice tree and I like the changes you have made more than the original. It accentuates the dead wood more I think and lightens the composition which I think works better. Is this a Sabina? The "leggy" foliage you speak of reminds me of a few of these I've seen, not so much Chinensis but I'm no expert on either ... in any case I like it - not so manicured and a bit "wild" which appeals to me with this tree. Would be interested in the rough dimensions now after you said you reduced it a bit - proportionately I think it looks great ... Maybe reduce the apex a bit more if anything ... maybe??. Thanks for posting - it's a credit to you.

Which picture is the current front?

Because I definitely prefer the 2nd picture.

The third picture is the front.
There's something about the current front that just doesn't work as well in photos as the back. I'm getting is professionally photographed soon...hopefully I can get a better shot of it.

Nice tree and interesting pot.

The sharp bend is interesting and thought provoking.

I prefer the changes compared to when you originally purchased it.

I assume that you are saying the one with the Shari in front? That is my pick of the front too.
