This is a good example of age. When people ask how old is that tree. This would be one of my oldest TREE'S. It is 62 years old

Not Bonsai the tree was dug in 1990 out of a garden that was planted in 1947 by a returned service man.
Super six was not available, plus people could trust there neighbours so just a hedge was needed.
When I was digging this the old soldier came past and asked what I was doing.
He fought them on the Kokoda track.
He told me that he planted the hedge when he and his wife moved in. So this tree is a minimum of 62 years old.

I did nothing for 2 years, as I wanted it to recover. This was my first collection. Then when I did it was only half hearted.
I have been working on it for 2 years now, and I am starting to like it, so this Bonsai is a maximum of 17 years old, but as I said not much work has been done.

not much work on it?? mate if you can get trees like that for doing not much work...teach me!

Always nice to see a tree with history and a nice story to go with it.

It really is starting to show character int he trunk and branches.
If you want my two cents (which you may not), i think that it could be improved by slightly shortening the first branch. The tree moves to the right and with the second branch longer than the first it would re-enforce this movement. Also lengthening one of the branches on the same side towards the crown might also improve its outline. I did a quick (bad) virtual to explain what i mean.
Hope you don't mind the suggestions. Its a really nice tree with age and great history. I wish it was on my benches.

It is a Privet . Ligustrum vulgare.

A noxious weed in many parts of the country. It is not allowed in the Sydney Royal Show

I have been wondering where to go next you have now pointed me in the right direction. I have been trying to get more growth up top, but shortening was not in my thoughts.

I think it has a very bright future and with a little growing (i am told they grow fast) it will be a very special tree.
