Hi all,

I thought I would post up this Juniper to start a progression on it.

This was one that originated from a big Juniper dig KCPOOLE organised many years ago, a former member of the forum dug this. Since that time it has ended up in my possession in Sept 2013. This is what it was like when I got it.
After it's initial styling, this was the result. At the time going for a cascade.
And after a recent restyling, here is where it sits today

*side
*some of the deadwood
*base

I will be looking to get this into a Bonsai pot soon, but I will let it recover from this first. Any thoughts and comments are most welcome.

Once I repot it, i will update this thread again.

Nice jin works David
Maybe the angle of photos don't justify the true jin work at the base but I'd like to see a flow of live part to upper apex. Perhaps extend the jin work further down the base?

I too am interested in this deadwood.
For some reason it comes across as almost a Tanuki in the photo's?
Not sure why, perhaps you can explain it?

I will endevour to get better photos of the deadwood so you can get a better idea.

Here is a quick update for it, this tree has more sentiment than most to me because I call it 'Dad's Tree' as I restyled it after his passing last September. I thought it fitting that, because of being in optimal health that it got its first bonsai pot on his anniversary.
*13 September 2017 and retained the elongated growth after repotting
*20 December 2017. It was trimmed a couple of weeks ago and has responded well*.

Any thoughts and comments are welcomed.

Hi David,

Nice work so far. Needs a bit of thinning and definition of the foliage( cut out some portions leaving small gaps etc)Back off fertilising and put in full sun to encourage more compact new growth when it comes.

Definitely in the maturing phase now,

Great work David, a really characterful tree with its deadwood work (a little too bright for me -maybe more intriciate shadows in the carving and maybe some Indian ink in the lime sulphur would shut me up) But to go on in this critical mode I think a less smooth and a little more craggy pot would show off the aged appearance of your tree to advantage.
