Okay so this has not been reported for 3 years, and I missed the boat last winter due to moving. So I have done a bit of thinning out of some surplus branches. Any suggestions as to training or more shaping. I'm a bit of a novice, I got given a stack of bonsai plants by my aunt a few years ago and trying to give them a good home and not kill them all.

Well it still looks healthy. Are you sure its a Scots Pine? Or a Mugo Pine?? Looks more like a Mugo to me.
First you need to know what it is you are trying to achieve with regards to style. I know cascade but what are your thoughts? Do you want to change the angle, just grow as is. Give us more info. Here is a site that may give you some direction.

Thanks, I think I am just not really happy with it. I think I'll wait and see how it goes and maybe try a different angle when I repot it.

Angle changes are easy to imagine with a few blocks and wedges placed under one side of the pot. The stand back and see what you think.
Or place the pot into a small black plastic pot at an angle. This allows you to play around with it without repotting etc...

Heaps of potential in this tree with multiple options . Im no good with virts so this is a pic pretty close to what I see. the sketch the cascade branch is coming off the trunk higher and the angle maybe not possible but you might get the direction im trying to portray.
