What is the best maintenance regime to use when caring for your tools.

I don't own specific bonsai tools...... yet, but I do have a few pairs of cutting/snipping tools that I have been using and they are due for cleaning. What is the best way to clean/sterilise them and how often should this be done.

It should be done after each use, that way there is no build up of sap and dirt residue.
Buy your self a CREAN mate block and use that after each use.
It will clean off most of the rubbish, but it will need elbow grease to get rid of some built up residue.

I did a little online search for this, I'm a little miffed/put out I can't just pop out to the local and pick one up. Enthusiasm pushes patience out of the way
Any other suggestions on temporary substitute?

Very fine emery cloth. Your local club should be able to help source one. I have bought them from clubs in the East when I have been over there.

I second Pups recommendation of the Crean Mate, works like a charm.

CREAN mate and coconut oil!

You can almost see your reflection in stainless tools after using this......
