Hi all,
This will probably be a stupid question, but I can't find answers anywhere and am still new to Bonsai.
I am wondering why you need to remove salt from deadwood to be used for tanuki.
I have read everywhere that it should be done and I am in the process of doing it to a few pieces I got from the beach at the moment, but just for learning purposes am just after clarification as to why?
And would the principle of removing the salt apply to rocks also from coastal areas to be used in root over rock styles?
Many thanks in advance.

Can only assume that the salt will be deposited in your soil from anything (wood, rocks).
Salt is typically no good for plants!
