This is a small Shinpaku juniper that i bought this year from Shibui. He had done lots of growing and twisting over a number of years and I saw lots of potential in it.
All I have done so far was shorten a sacrifice branch and some long growth to make it stable enough to be potted into a small Tokoname grey drum pot.
That was about 6 months ago and it is doing fine so I will start to work on it over the next week.

Got stuck into it and nearly finished for now.
Removed a lot of branches, lots of little jin
and a few new twists etc.
Post picture after lunch

Cool!
Also. I assume no spelling mistake?
I've always seen shimpaku as opposed to shinpaku?

It's a beautiful tree. Has lots of potential.
Can't wait to see it refined.
I do believe it's Shimpaku...I could be mistaken though

Finished for now.
Let foliage elongate and thicken but not too much as this tree will always have to be kept sparse so that the curves don't over thicken and disappear.
There are also a few small branches still to remove but have wired them into place for now.

Cool Grant.
Didn't expect that.
Would love to see you document the next stages.

Shall do. Introduce some more jin and shari once it has regrown a bit. Shouldn't take too long,
Grant.

I wasn't expecting that either! I was looking at the lower branch for the tree with the upper branch (now trunk) as deadwood.

Steven

A future literati, perhaps? Salvatore Liporace would love the required (by him) 7 twists!
Anyway, I'm sure this small tree will be fun to work with, and that you'll make a success of it.
