good video explains it really well actually i watched it a few years ago and it visually helped clarify a few things!
So the other questions is who does what to balance the tree?
1. 10 day method between bottom, middle, apex
2. Different length stubs? only recently heard about this one?
3. Different number of needles pairs left, more on bottom weaker parts less on top
4. Combo of above?
Or am i starting a war here?

If the candle is allowed to develop needles and does not thicken the branch [?]
Would not food go into the tree and a better response to being pruned,be expected ?

Hello Bonsaiists happy New Year to all. Watching this and other videos on Black Pine treatment helps greatly to understand, it takes some of the confusion out of a particular process. This one does it by showing you that he (Boon) is actually cutting SHOOTS not candles, there are no candles on this tree, they are current growth stage shoots. This is why so many get so confused from books, they stress the importance of understanding the terminology, then proceed by saying something different. There is a lot to deal with throughout the year on one tree species, it's important to understand when, why and what you are doing. This one task is the most commonly confused area of two needle Pine Bonsai treatment.
Apologies to Boon, he knows what he is doing, he's a Master, it's the wording that is confusing.
