This one will take some entering as I am in about stage three (of maybe 10 stages??) and have a photo progress to put up.
In ten years time this may be the page you go to to say "how do I go about this"
Alternatively, (and more likely) this may be the page you go to to say "how don't I go about this"
either way it's there perhaps for some learning, perhaps for some inspiration, perhaps coz' I never have enough projects to do and this is just another.

I mentioned in some previous post that I had Callistemon springing up everywhere under my bonsai racks, at least 20 and probably more. Some got given away, some got planted as a hedge in my yard, some got sold and some remain in pots in the collection for future projects.
This is one of them

and the rocks (gifted from a blokes fishtank) into the bottom of a styro box. The two rocks both have a whole through the centre of them so these have been aligned on atop the other.

had to get in and have a look at the roots to see what they were doing in relation with the rock, could not have picked a better time, while a good rootspread was happening a lot of it was spreading out not encapsulating the rock so two pieces of wire was used to bring it all back to shape before planting again.

I have now put it in the ground grown area. The same trees that I have used as hedges, always been in the ground, are three times the diameter of this, so another year or two will make a big difference to what this will look like but it will be more like five before I pull it.

Thanks Watty, like where you're going. Would you not lift in a couple years and recheck the roots?

Hi Craig, thanks for the interest. HMMMM, Maybe but I will hope not.
There is some growing space at the bottom of the bag and then a soil medium under that, between the bag and the ground so it's elevated slightly off ground level on a pile of my bonsai medium. My thinking is that I can saw straight under the bag when it come time for lifting. But I think it will take the two years for roots to get to the bottom of the bag, through the slight elevation and then into the ground. And then I want them considerably in the ground as well, two years might be a little early, but only time will tell me that, it's all trial from this point on.
So this gets tucked away for now, I will continue to do stuff with the top, shaping styling, etc but it will be difficult to update with a decent photo when it is in the ground.
