Hi all, please could somebody ID this tree for me . It's growing in my yard and I was wondering if it would airlayer . Thanks in advance for any help it would be most appreciated

Melaleuca decussata maybey?

I'll go melaleuca nesophylla, mainly because of leaf shape and the flowers fade from mauve/pink to white as they age, and your pics show this might be occurring. As for air layering, I'd give it a go...

Hi ryceman , I think you got it , the flowers are little puffballs and the leaf shape matches. Do you think I should layer now or wait till spring.

Hi Peterb,
I began an air layer on a Mel Huegelii 2 years ago (almost to the day!) and I removed it in October of that same year. Probably should have left it longer but it was not my tree and not in my yard, so you have a big advantage...

These layers were successful (well, 2 of the 3, the one that failed was due to me not the timing of the layer) - probably should update this thread!

In short, I would go for it now.

Hi All
After reading an old post of Pup's , it seems that Mel Nesophilla doesn't back bud . Would it be a waste of time to air layer? I've searched hi and lo for bonsai info on Mel Nesophila but can't seem to find any , has anybody layered one Thanks for any info folks
