Hi All,
Quick Q. I stumbled across a couple of English Oaks yesterday which i am able to dig. I assume the dormant months will be the best time to dig and Oak. Am i correct?

Yes, if you can wait until late winter just before buds burst in spring, would be ideal.

In Melbourne it is fine through from late August until the end of September.

To help with the wait you can spade around it and sever the larger roots and fertilise the perimeter. Then backfill with a good potting mix and water well. This will make the collection easier and give the tree a much better start to life in a pot.
