OK this is probably going to be very easy for someone experienced. I have seen this tree a lot here in Melbourne but don't know what species it is. Can someone please tell me and also if this is a bonsai material ?

Hi Jd,
Looks like a 'Ghost' Gum to me?! Not the best species for bonsai
Cheers,

It is certainly a Eucalypt but there are a lot of white barked eucs. It could be any one of a dozen or more species. Growing in the median strip means almost certainly planted there so not necessarily a local species and location will not help us. It could come from anywhere in Aust.
If you want ID to species level you'll need to supply pictures of leaves and gumnuts. Flowers or flower buds are also valuable diagnostics.

Sometimes local councils know what they've planted around the place. Or not.
