Just wondering if its normal to have so many pale leaves on my tiger bark fig or am i not feeding enough? She has been growing lots since ive had her the last couple of weeks

Personally I think it could do with a feed and perhaps more light.

Its kept in full sun so all i can think of is feed or over / underwatering

I think you might find that the leaves a new. Mine are very looking much the same. Feed, water and a good lot of sunshine also we're in the middle of a heat wave

Well it has gained a ton over the last couple of weeks crazy growth to be honest

Agree re new growth, which is often a bit lighter until it hardens off.

In the first pic, looks like you have leaf curled in on itself with a bunch of spots (pic is a bit unfocused on that section, so maybe not). If so, looks like thrips, which do sometimes like TB fig. You need a 'nuke' strength systemic insecticide do deal with them (just look on the label) and should also remove any affected leaves as you go to stop the buggers.

Hi Wal,

Hard to tell from the picture if it is just the new growth or not. Keep a close eye on it over the coming days.

If the new growth continue to lighten in colour it may possibly be an iron deficiency.

Iron deficiencies normally begin by affect ing the new growth, eventually causing them to be a bleached almost pale yellow once it takes affect. Eventually it will slowly working back to the old growth after affecting the new.

This is a snippet from the web;

"Iron (Fe) deficiency is a plant disorder also known as "lime-induced chlorosis". It can be confused with manganese deficiency. A deficiency in the soil is rare but iron can be unavailable for absorption if soil pH is not between about 5 and 6.5.[1] A common problem is excessive alkalinity of the soil (the pH is above 6.5). Also, iron deficiency can develop if the soil is too waterlogged or has been overfertilised. Elements like calcium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, or copper can tie up iron if they are present in high amounts."

If it is an iron deficiency, a simple spray of iron chelates (follow dilution directions) applied directly onto the foliage will correct the issue pretty quickly in my experience.

Like I said it's hard to tell from the photo if it is just the fresh growth yet to harden off, or something more sinister.

How long have you had the tree?
What do you fertilise with/how often?
What's your watering reigeme like?
Does the water pool on top when you water it or run freely?
What's the trees positioning?

I'm still new to the hobby so my experiences are limited, but it may be a possibility. As said monitor it over the coming days and see what happens. I'm sure soon the more experienced will identify the problem if someone hasn't already.

Its been 2 weeks today and she had some sort of slow release balls with her when i got it and to be honest i only gave some liquid fert for the first time today 4mil nitrosol to 1ltr

I water everyday in the morning.. its free running tho

I see also the pot has changed, did you also repot it in the last 2 weeks since you got it?

If a tree has just been repotted and root pruned you should not fertalise for a couple weeks as it can damage the roots.

With figs, leaves can also sometimes turn yellow from stress, sometimes even causing the leaves to drop.

Something as simple as a sudden change in position or micro-climate can stress the tree. Was the nursery local to you? Additionally either too much or too little water can too. Other possibilities for stress can pest related so give the tree a good look over and make sure there's no sneeky critters laying around.

Yes i slipped it into a bigger pot but didnt touch the roots.
I will have a good look over for pests in the morning

Hello Wal,

I wouldn't be worried at this time with the new foliage, i think this looks normal.

BUT, that last photo showed black scale insects, only a few which are easy enough to remove with your finger nails.

At this time i would remove the scale and keep your feeding regime as recommended by the supplier.
