Kokufu 2017

Hi All,
I have indicated before how to do a week in Tokyo for <$1000, and I returned today from my latest sub-$1000 jaunt, which included Kokufu, Omiya, and Kobayashi's nursery. :)
Having never visited Kokufu before, I was astounded at the quality of the trees and their presentation. Kobayashi's museum was also a surprise at the quality of his collection - and I'd rate it better than the Omiya nurseries.

Here are some pics:

And the sales area at Ueno Green Club...

There was a cold and lonely guy in the forground of the next shot, wearing a beanie, manning a sales stand, and didn't mind a chat, and let me pick his brains.... :shifty:

Beaut photos, thanks for showing us. I like your ideas about travel too!

Just a general question for anyone, is the "melted look" of the nebari on some of those trees something people aim for?

One last picture from Mansei-en bonsai nursery in Omiya.

I noticed a tree that had a blanket wrapped around the pot, so asked the nurseryman why?
IMG_0344.JPG
Nurseryman's answer:
"The tree belongs to a client, and the pot is worth USD$750,000, so we wrap it in a blanket to protect it from extreme temperature fluctuations to reduce it's chance of cracking."
:o

Availability of pots was crazy, and there were some absolute bargains to be had.
I could have filled a truck, but resisted to a few bargain priced Tokonames. ;)
