Hi guys. I'd like to get a few carving tools for my die grinder. I'll order a couple of the kavem tool but I'd also like a long ball nose carving tool like the one shown here from kaizen. Have you guys found any here in aus?

Hey Sambow,
That one looks v-expensive. Your local hardware or specialist tool store will have a range, but they can be expensive too.
On ebay you can get a bunch of different shapes for practically nothing. eg

Some of the bonsai shops have burrs specifically designed to carve wood, they work well and are middle of the range in price.
Cheers,Symon

I do think with the exchange rate it will be around one hundred dollars, and being solid carbide the shipping would be very expensive. Do you do a lot of the type of carving that requires this type of cutter ? I use a Dremel with a 561 multipurpose bit for this type of work. Granted the bit is only 1/8th diameter but it will be a lot easier to hold and control. I buy the bits from Widget Supply in the US and they are only US $2 for loose bits.

I'm looking for a quarter inch / 6 mm shank burr to carve inside a big trunk too. I want a long shank due to the size of the trunk. I saw something like this at the Green Market in Tokyo, but can't find anything like it online. I think long shanked burrs are rare because of the vibration issues with the high revs of a die grinder and the large head. Widget supply in the US doesn't have any.

Any machine tooling supplier will have a variety of hss and solid carbide end mills slot drills and ball nosed cutters.
Try Blackwoods first. D.E.K. Tooling supplies or any engineering cutter supplies.
I bought a little terrier from Kiazan and it has replaceable cutter inserts. Don't lose the little wrench that is supplied.

I have ordered several cutters from Kaizen. Outstanding quality, outstanding service and they are made for the job. The regular cutters you get from hardware stores are not as good IMO...

FYI, my last order was 5 different cutters, all delivered to Australia for $87.
