thought I would share a wisteria stump collected in october.

its between 120 and 150 years old, collected from adelaide zoo. its bigger than me and out weighs me by half a ton.

Wow! Asus thats one awesome piece of material to work with - you have an obligation to produce a masterpiece out of this. Have you formulated a plan yet?

Yeah I'll let it go this season, let it get roots.

From the extensive reading I have done, I have to remember a few things.
1. Wisteria can close wounds well. Ill get a little closure on small wounds, but large ones wont. best to carve them out and keep them dry.
2. You don't style wisteria to the same degree as a classical bonsai. You want it to be wild, just remember basics like no bar branches, no reverse taper.
3. You don't show wisteria in leaf. Don't worry about the size of them, no-one will see them/
4. They respond better to rock music than traditional hot jazz.
5. They love water and food!
6. Deeper pot than normal.
7. When you give it style, remember you are going to display it in full flower. Therefore you style choice must reflect the weeping nature of the flowers.

Its got a lot of rot atm that i will need to clean out, should make for some good carving.

I have hopes that this one will flower in 2009. How old do you expect them to be before flowering in Oz?
