The red berries drew my eye today so I decided to get some pictures before they also attract the blackbirds.
The taller one is in full sun and the berries are more mature.

This shorter one is under the shadecloth. More vegetative growth and the berries are just starting to turn red.

Both spent a couple of years in the ground to bulk up the trunks. That was somewhere around 20 years ago

Keep at it mate. they will catch up eventually.
I'd say yours are a different species. Mine are Cotoneaster horizontalis which was common as a garden plant 20-40 years ago. It makes nice dense foliage pads and lots of berries.
The one you have is a larger, more open type which looks like the feral weedy ones we get all around here.
