So I saw this one in the far south of Phuket Thailand.
It was used as a hedge and was flowering very nicely with delicate bundles of little flowers.
I can only assume it takes to Bonsai culture (pruning, back-budding etc) seeing it was used as a hedge.
Question is.. .What is it - and will it grow here!?

It looks to me like Wrightia Religiosa, AKA Water Jasmine.
I read somewhere that the common name arises from the flowers hanging down, so the can best be viewed reflected in water.
I haven't grown one yet, but they seem to behave like star jasmines, and are quite popular in Thailand as bonsai.

Boics, I think you might have a fairly hard road growing this plant in Melbourne. It is a true Tropical and although it grows here in Queensland, it doesn't do anywhere near as well as it did for me in Darwin. I have a couple of Wrightia's in the Garden here on the Fraser Coast which aren't to bad, but in pot culture they really need all the help they can get. I think a hot house would be a necessity down your way. Only place I was able to get them from was Cairns, although they used to be available in Darwin Nurseries, not sure about now, sorry. Might be worth a phone call up there, or get in contact with Cairns Bonsai Club members, there is one on here I think.

This is one that i repotted yesterday and the one in the pot was one of two suckers i grew next to it
