I can't seem to find any good pics, but here is what I mean: Is this just an over-the-top root over "rock" style? Do they just grow the roots super long then drape them over something?

Similar to that style is this kind of thing, but on a lesser scale: I really like this, but how is this developed?

I ask because from my experience getting exposed roots varies from species to species.

My guess is that the method is to progressively expose the roots. Not sure if there is something inside the root mass to make the conical shape, or if this just happens as you grow the tree and expose its roots progressively.

Certainly i wouldn't drape the roots over a rock. This just makes the tree even heavier!

I've had some success by jamming a rock underneath the base during repotting, leaving it for a season and then removing.

This starts the process of a few roots near the base fattening.

As stevew said, I then gradually expose top soil. Leaving the rock makes it root over rock.

When the roots harden you are on your way.

I suggest putting trees in taller pots and sitting them on a tray with water in it to encourage the trees to send roots down (as opposed to across).

I understand that this page is from Taiwan but could be completely wrong. The talk of roots begins halfway down although it's all worthwhile.

I remember looking at a number of these style trees at a Sydney Nursery a few years ago. On a couple of them you could actually see "through" the roots and they were hollow inside. My guess is they are grown over some sort of cone structure until the roots fuse and then they would be gradually lifted, exposing more and more root. Just supposition on my part without any knowledge whatsoever though.

few ways-- many years working on the Nebari-- 2.fusing .--3 splitting.--4.---grafting roots.5..growing in the right enviroment and fed right ... or root spreading over years of work.
could also spread over objects .
